TipHaus vs. GratShare rules

How can we ensure our TipHaus rules are setup in a way that matches GratShare?

Our Process:

  • We use the Tip Policy + current GratShare rules to build TipHaus out.
  • We arrange a separate session with TipHaus to confirm our rules as laid out by the Tip Policy.
  • If there are concerns, you can go into the Tip Distribution Logic section to review the rules and request adjustments by submitting a request to support@joseandres.com

Can we compare our numbers directly to GratShare?

  • Since we aren't using Toast for time keeping until the transition occurs, there isn't a direct way to compare apples to apples.  We can review the total tips by category (gratuity, credit, cash tips) and ensure they match between all the systems.  If your tip policy is very direct, you can back into the estimated numbers with a little math.

Rule Differences between TipHaus and GratShare:

  • Unable to set up rules that are variable based on the number of staff.
    • Example - Bar tips out barback 30% or 20% if there are 3+ barbacks.
  • TipHaus cannot tip out on $$ that is tipped out.
    • Common Example - Server tips bartender pool 8%.  From the bartender pool, bartenders tip out barbacks 20%.  TipHaus will not allow tips received to be further tipped out to others.
    • How we workaround - Server tips out bartender 8%, 20% of that goes to barbacks.
      • 8% bartender tips * 20% goes to barback = Server tips out barback 1.6% directly.
      • Bartenders keep the rest, 8% - 1.6% = 6.4%.  Server tips out bartender 6.4% directly.
      • This is the same math as before, but now it appears that servers tip out barbacks directly.
      • If you have these rules, make sure you communicate to your staff to alleviate any concerns.
